The colour of childhood sweets

The colour of childhood sweets, Those strong colours mixed with colouring agents we are told might make us ill. The colour of sweets just the smell of the lime one, reminds me of toilet cleaner, I still can't stand the smell of limes the real ones you can buy in the shops and when i go for a drink and i see a wedge of lime I bin it and sometimes spill the drink too. The orange colour ones, looked like solid colour, and tasted sugar pure, they never tasted of oranges. The strawberry ones were strong flavoured and did suggest an affinity with the fruit we had in the garden. I preferred the raspberries ones not because of the colour. Just because! It is not an answer you will be satisfied with but it will have to do. I am thinking sweets nicked from the ladder, sucked behind the big walnut tree and sometimes shared.
